Do counsellors have reviews or ratings? I know it's best to check if they're bacp registered but I'm looking for a marriage counsellor and it would be great to see some testimonials.

My advice would be to find a couples counsellor who assesses for abuse by meeting the individuals separately initially. This indicates the counsellor may have the capacity and skills to take on any necessary confrontation. Some couples counsellors approach it like they brokering a deal by putting pressure on the more invested/compromising partner and can entrench bad behaviour of the less compromising party.

Hm, that sounds worrying! How do you go about finding one who takes the required approach, just contact them and ask what procedure they follow?
