Venlafaxine side effect?

Hey

So I have been taking venlafaxine for around 4 months and currently at 225mg a day

Since starting this med, I have started twitching. It's only my legs that seem to do it.

I was just wondering has anyone else had this? Should I be worried?

Thank you Smile

Yes! I had the eye twitching too when I first started taking it! Lasted about 2 weeks but seems to have stopped for good now.
However the leg twitches are still happening. I guess it's something I will have to put up with, it could be worse I guess

@theworldisgrey it's weird but it must be a side effect , the dr told me that the eye twitching would come and go and leg pains are part of it too but reading some other posts on here there seem to be a fair few side effects
Does a cold shower on the legs calm it down ?

theworldisgrey · 07/04/2023 19:47

@foxlover47 have you been on it for a long time? Yes there are quite a lot, luckily most of them I've had seem to calm down as the weeks pass by.
I haven't tried that, will give it a try and see if it helps though 😊

If the leg twitches continue, or are bothersome, let your doctor know. It could be a side effect called tardive dyskinesia. I had it at higher doses with a medication and once it was lowered it disappeared.

@YesItsMe44 oh I haven't ever heard of that before. I have a review soon so will mention the twitching. Thank you

I was on It before lockdown so quite a few years now :/
I hope the cold water helps
I also haven't heard of tardive dyskinesia x

I'm from "across the pond" as you would say, in the states. I looked up the medication to make sure it was Effexor. The tardive dyskinesia has been brought up to me anytime it's a side effect of a medication I'm going to try. It could very well be I've had the issue with the other medications and was noted in my chart.

I just looked it up on the NHS site and it doesn't come up. If you Google it you'll find decent information on Medline, or The Mayo Clinic websites. good resources that are decent and reliable resources.

@YesItsMe44 thank you for the info, I will have a look on the mentioned websites

I'm on venlafaxine and occasionally get twitching in one place or another. Google says it's because of reduced sodium in the blood, which is one of the side effects.
