Anxiety or should I get a second opinion?

Basically last Thursday I got my first ever migraine, awful couldn’t stand and could barely open my eyes, fast forward to Friday I started to get tightenings in my chest along with feeling sick and sweating, the only way I can describe them is like a milder contraction but how they came and went and felt were exactly the same just in a different location, they would come every 10 mins or so and last about 5 seconds then eventually spread out, they eventually came and went with no pattern and stopped on Sunday morning. Since then I have had a really heavy feeling on my chest like someone is sat on me. I rang 111 they got me a phone call appointment with my GP, the GP said it sounded like it wasn’t my chest/heart or lungs so didn’t need to see me and to ‘keep an eye on it’ over the next few days and ring back if I felt I needed seeing face to face. Have I been severely fobbed off? Should I call back? I’ve never suffered with anxiety before but could this be the cause if he’s not concerned? The heaviness is definitely felt on my chest so unsure how he could dismiss this over the phone.

Hi OP, it does sound like stress. Are you going through anything at the moment that would cause this do you think?

GoingMadQuickly · 21/03/2023 07:36

I get chest pains after a migraine. Doc said it's because it likely elevates my blood pressure. Had lots of tests re my heart (for other reasons) and all came back fine.

Go and get checked face to face as heart attack presents different in women

People always comment this when any woman says they have any issue with their chest, but what the OP is describing isn't how a heart attack presents in women. Especially regarding it being a contraction sensation and following a severe headache.

Slightly different because this was my DH but he felt like this on and off for a while and then had a full scale panic attack followed by a breakdown months later. So it can happen. He didn’t even realise he was feeling stressed until he actually thought about it so it can happen.

@BlackandPink no nothing at all, but now I’m wondering am I just panicking about the pain I did have which is now causing the heaviness feeling! I don’t know I think I would have just felt better if I was seen by the doctor rather than just a phone call!

@GoingMadQuickly thats reassuring! Yes they did tell me signs to look out for and obviously were nothing that I was having, I think for peace of mind I was just hoping to get checked out but I understand how busy they are

Can you do an online referral? I did one Fri and saw a GP yesterday. Even she shocked. Must have just caught a cancellation?

Mel892020 · 21/03/2023 08:11

@CuriousMama this is what I did originally, GP told me to call 111, so I did that then they got me a phone call with the GP, all very confusing but my doctors surgery is terrible at the best of times!

I'd get booked into see a gp, they should be taking chest pains very seriously, if not I would go to a&e. have you done your blood pressure? Is it normal?

I mean online. If you can then register with GP surgery online and request a f2f. Or through NHS app.

Mel892020 · 21/03/2023 09:32

@CuriousMama yes this is how I did it at first through the nhs app I already have it all set up, the original post was the outcome

I'd do it again and tell them you want f2f

Corah5 · 21/03/2023 12:32

A heavy feeling in your chest is often acid and wind in your stomach. Which can be caused by stressing yourself out.
