I've started on 30mg of Elvanse today for severe binge eating disorder and ADHD. I'd love to hear of others experiences on this drug and what it meant for their BED and ADHD.

I have everything crossed its going to help me.

I started Elvanse two days ago for ADHD - also 30mg. I have not been diagnosed with BED but know that it is an issue causing me to be 5 stone overweight. It has been a revelation. The calm that has descended upon me has also calmed my need to binge eat. I’m hoping this effect lasts. I feel like an adult for the first time in my life with agency and self control. How are you getting on with it now?

Cheffie100 · 11/03/2023 11:30

Thank you so much for replying. I am on day 4 and feel exactly the same. A complete revolution to have this much self-control and balance. I feel like I can finally live! I have read that the body can get used to it and the dose needs to increase quite soon. Did your doctor mention this at all?

Part of me wants a higher dose as I don't want to risk this wearing off and not feeling this good but the other part me doesn't want to take medication unnecessarily.

I would welcome keeping in touch - people on this journey are a rare find!

Are you having any side effects?

My doctor didn’t mention that the dose may need to be increased soon. I have a review in 3-6 months (depending on dr availability) but I got the impression that is to monitor side effects. I’m not experiencing any side effects other than exhaustion once the dose wears off but that could be due to the fact that I’m moving so much more. I still tend to be hyper focused on a “to do” list - but now I’m “doing” it. How long does the dose work for you?

I’m also about to start Elvanse so jumping in! I’m going to have to pay for it as it’ll be a private prescription no idea how I’ll afford it and I can’t find prices anywhere!

Mumtothethreeamigos · 24/05/2023 17:31

Hi how is everyone doing on Elvanse? Is started three days ago and have felt rough today after two amazing first days. Feel a bit sad and want some reassurance

Cheffie100 · 24/05/2023 20:44

Starting the medication definitely takes some getting your head round. Well done for starting. What symptoms do you have?
All day?
Or just at certain times?
What time did you take Elvanse?

I have been on it nearly 2 years and lost 4 stone. I was diagnosed with ADHD but I also had binge eating disorder (side effect of my adhd). It's been brilliant a total revelation & changed my life so much for the better. I can now concentrate, be organised and feel in control. The medication does lose its initial power over time but it's not a bad thing and with regular breaks it's levelled out nicely. I know people who have been on it a lot longer and as long as you have regular breaks it continues to work. Its honestly been life changing for me.

2020sarah · 05/07/2023 12:48

How are you doing on this? I got diagnosed with adhd dec 2022, I have tried all the meds my best for productivity and effectiveness was elvanase I wouldn’t even go for a wee I was so in the zone but I felt physically awful, but the other type of stimulants I have tried all versions and they just don’t work so I’m going back to elvanase this week but trying 30mg instead of 50mg this time, how are you finding it?

2020sarah · 05/07/2023 12:51

Would you mind me asking what dose you are on? I’m hoping I can tolerate 30mg better as 50mg made me feel like I had a massive hangover that chest anxiety feeling, well done on weight loss! I don’t have binge eating but I could do with losing weight I did find I didn’t eat in the day but I was normal by evening and I drink wine which defo meant I didn’t lose weight,

Cheffie100 · 05/07/2023 21:02

Hey, I'm not sure what I think of it really. When you say you feel physically awful can you describe your symptoms?

I'm in the middle of relocating with my family and have various stresses going on so I'm struggling with what is real and what is meds.

I'm more focused and more aware but also quite anxious. It's so tricky to know.

I’m not currently on it, I’m on concerta but It’s not working at all, when I was on elvanase ( and I’m being prescribed it again this week) I felt like my whole body was tense especially my chest and jaw, felt on edge and kinda like that morning sickness feel, it wasn’t nice but Iv tried about 6 types of meds now and elvanase is the only one that works, all the others made me tired as in I need to nap in the day and I can’t stop eating either which made me feel very out of control mentally.
my new job starts in a month it’s s big promotion for me and because I know elvanase does help me I feel inadequate without which I’m not sure is a healthy outlook, over the last 7 months I’m also not sure what’s been helpful or not it’s felt a bit messy in terms of support.

I started on 50mg elvanase last time so I have asked to try 30mg this time to see if the side effects are less? That’s why I was curious how you found them on 30mg.

moving is stressful I hope you settle in quickly and enjoy your new home 😊

ADHDQueen · 17/07/2023 18:45

How are you all finding Elvanse? I'm waiting on delivery of a prescription from Psych UK's pharmacist in the next few days. Fingers crossed it helps me! I spent months trialling extended & immediate-release Methylphenidate, which didn't really do anything for me. Only the non-stimulants left after this, I believe. 😕

ForgetYouNot · 18/07/2023 17:05

I’ve been on 30mg for 4 months now. I don’t notice any side effects. I just seem to be able to get on with my life like everyone else now. I still get overwhelmed occasionally when I have too much to do but I can step back and create room - maybe a day off work- and can do a few things each day until I catch up. I was hoping to lose weight but that has only started happening recently when I purposefully tried cutting down. I pay for a private prescription but it’s so worth it for me.

Roorookachoo · 28/07/2023 06:22

I started elvanse about 6 weeks ago, I started on 30mg for a week I noticed straight away the difference, stopped eating sugery snacks and i was addicted to masturbaiting and that went from my head. After the first week it went up to 50mg. I had my first follow up 2 weeks later and had lost nearly a stone in weight 12stone12 to 12stone. But I noticed it wearing off in the afternoon so got prescribed an extra 20mg between 1-4 in the afternoon. I lost an extra 5 pounds 2 weeks later down to 11stone9. Now 6 weeks in im struggling with masterbaiting again not as bad as before but I can't get it out my head, and I'm getting hungry again and put on 3 pounds. Is anyone else feeling it wear off over time?

Adhdmothe · 18/08/2023 13:22

Starting elvanse 30mg just woundering what’s everyone experience on it. I’ve been told it it makes u to upbeat and proactive it’s a sign of not having adhd as it’s meant to calm not stimulate is this true ? I’m on day one feel slightly lethargic I’m aware it’s meant to calm me down but I don’t want it to drain my energy

2020sarah · 20/08/2023 10:39

I have been on elvanse twice since Xmas the first time I was in the zone - but felt awful so gave up and tried others brands never worked, joined adhd forum chadd - learnt it was coffee and I’m talking one weak instant coffee was what was making me feel awful, I was tired and hungry until I was on 70mg I now can eat on it but I’m not really hungry, Iv lost weight I think (I don’t way myself since Iv had a little girl so she doesn’t grow up seeing me do that - really liberating fyi I don’t even think about food) I think Iv lost weight as Iv gone off drinking wine I used to drink a bottle a night now I still have a after work glass but I don’t fancy anymore after that, it’s also helped me start to take care of myself again, vitamins, flossing lol, new make up, roots done, walking more etc all without having to mentally obsess about doing it ( I was very all of nothing before this med) at 70mg I stopped being tired and am very focused at work etc, I don’t take a top up so by night time I’m tired and ready to sleep, I struggle with headaches and tense jaw and tense shoulders which is prob a mixture of the meds, starting a new job and resisting until last week to use a proper office chair at home! I hope this helps x
