Health Anxiety

Hi all
my health anxiety is driving me crazy and really getting me down now. I’ve suffered with it for years and years but never been treated or received any help for it.
I’m always worrying I’ve got cancer of some sort. Honestly over the years I’ve had multiple cancer referrals. One for a changed mole, one for a black mark in my toe nail, another for some dark spots on my labia……I could go on. The amount of times I call the GP about things is actually a bit embarrassing.
I have a couple of weeks where I’m not worried about anything then BAM something else happens.
my current health worry is my night sweats. Long story cut short since beginning of January I’ve been on 4 course of antibiotics for x2 chest infections then x2 urine infection. My current course of antibiotics finishes on Wednesday. Now I know logically that the night sweats are likely to be from the antibiotics and/or whatever virus or infection I’ve got.
But I stupidly googled night sweats one night and WELL obviously google says it can be a sign of some cancers. Well I feel sick every night before bed hoping tonight will be the night I have no night sweats. Ironically apparently anxiety can also cause night sweats haha!
but anyway I haven’t called the GP yet I’m going to finish my current antibiotics and if the night sweats don’t stop then I will speak to them.
I just wonder now if it’s getting to the point of me needed some medication to help with this health anxiety?? And has anyone else suffered with night sweats every night ?

Have a look at this video on health anxiety.

Part of the problem with any type of anxiety is that you notice something that's not quite as it should be (like a small crack in the wall) and fixate on it out of proportion (the house is going to fall down) when in reality it's nothing to worry about.

Now I know logically that the night sweats are likely to be from the antibiotics and/or whatever virus or infection I’ve got.

That's the crack.

WELL obviously google says it can be a sign of some cancers

That's the house falling down. It won't.

Hi OP,so sorry to hear you are going through this and have dealt with it for so many years. I suffered from health anxiety a few years back after having my second DC and it was hell. Literally thought I had every illness going, particularly cancer. Much like yourself I would Google symptoms and of course they were always related to some form of cancer.

I would definitely recommend talking about this with your gp and perhaps they can offer counselling or maybe medication if needed. DP was on anxiety medication and that helped to ease some of his symptoms. As for night sweats I’ve mainly had them after having the kids but occasionally get them from time to time,it’s highly likely yours are due to your current infections/antibiotics. Please reach out for help, living in fear all of the time is so miserable and no way to live! Good luck ❤️
