Hello all,

Started on 50mg of Sertraline 2 weeks ago, am feeling better already mentally but am quite tired, not to the point I can’t get out of bed or function just not feeling energetic and feel like I could sleep for hours more. Am sleeping well at night - maybe thanks to these tablets! Anyone else had the same? Ta x

It’s good to hear you are feeling the benefits from the meds. The symptoms you describe are common side effects, but worth talking to your GP if they continue.

Side effect. If they make you feel sleepy take them at night!

Happydays1987 · 23/02/2023 08:50

I was taking them at night initially but because they upset my tummy and kept me up all night I swapped to morning. Haha ironic really as now it’s making me sleep. Am laughing to myself even though it’s not particularly funny to anyone else. Do you take them?

Have you experienced the same?

They are great for me. Just perfect.

Take them in the morning after food if you want to avoid stomach issues. I need Lanzoprazole too, otherwise I'm choking on acid reflux.

The first few days of taking them was absolutely awful. I thought I was going to die. I was in absolute hell. After the first week, I felt much better. I would not be here if it wasn't for these.

As long as I avoid situations that overwhelm me, I can get along ok.

Get some very strange dreams, but not a problem.

They can take around six weeks to settle down, so you'll hopefully find yourself feeling less sleepy then.

They can cause a bit of ringing in the ears, but it's not damaging or permanent. It's just that the auditory nerves are stimulated by the meds. Only noticeable in quiet situations and reassuring to know it's normal.

That’s good to know! Are you taking them for anxiety?

I must admit I didn’t notice any particular side effects. Do you think the tiredness may also be related to the anxiety? By taking the meds, you’ve made a step towards accepting and treating your anxiety, and it’s a lot to deal with mentally. Anxiety can be exhausting, and it’s like running on adrenaline for ages, then you crash at some point.
Tiredness is a common side effect of the meds though, and others have said it took a few weeks to ease off.

I did experience tiredness when I first started on 50, when I increased to 100 I didn't feel as bad as when I first started. It does settle down, as well as the upset tummy. X
