Hello! I've been taking 20mg citalopram for 5 months which has helped improve my mood however my anxiety is still ridiculous and I struggle to go a day without feeling anxious and having physical symptoms. The GP suggested we switch me onto Sertraline and said I can swap straight away there is no need to taper off citalopram. Everywhere I've read online says you shouldn't just switch overnight. Does anyone have any experiences of this? Also how bad were the side effects on starting anew medication? When I first started citalopram I didn't think I'd be able to get through the first two weeks and nearly gave up due to the wide effects! Thank you Blush

I switched overnight the other way around and had no side effects - I found citalopram better for me personally. Fingers crossed you don’t notice anything but benefits when you switch.

Yep, I switched and it was fine - took a few days to get used to Sertraline, and I was a bit more anxious than usual on those days, but once it settled down it worked well for me.

I think when it says not to just switch, it means not to just switch without a doctor's supervision.
