Any advice or experience please? Have been on 10mg for 5 years and I just don't want to be on it forever, plus am now on HRT and as i was prescribed it for pmsd anxiety, I thought maybe i could stop now. Have been trying tapering off (5mg a day) but after 5 days I feel highly anxious and panicked and very weepy.

I know these are tiny amounts but the doses/withdrawal seem to really affect me (when I started the improvement was pretty much immediate).

so should i push on at 5mg? Should i reduce more or stop all together? Or give up and take it forever?

My DH was told to take it forever.

I came down from 20mg to 10mg following my GP’s advice half dose one day a week for 2 weeks, half dose 2 days a week for 2 weeks, kept doing this until dropped the dosage. It worked well the GP did say if struggling after a drop don’t rush it. It’s not a quick process.
I have stayed on citalopram as it keeps me stable.

I was on citalopram for a whole year, 20 at the beginning (way too strong), switched to 15 (still strong) then settled at 10mg a day. After a year I could not cope anymore with side effects so decided to call it quits slowly and started taking 5 mg a day. Yes I noticed the good ol’ anxiety coming back (nothing life threatening). Made to chooose between a bit of anxiety and the side effects I chose anxiety. I was taking 5 mg for a few months daily, then tapered down to 5mg 3 days a week etc… I’ve been citalopram free 5 years and don’t miss it one bit. I still have my days sometimes so I just exercise and go to the sauna, better than any antidepressant.

Thank you, I guess I am going to keep trying at 5 for a bit then and see how it goes. Just found the sudden tears and beginnings of spiralling a bit shocking this morning and needing a hand hold.
