Blood Pressure and anxiety?!

Hi everyone,

I have been a bit more stressed and anxious recently and went to the doctors today but she said my blood pressure was high (diastolic), and I asked if I should be worried and she said no because the second reading she took was normal. She laughed like my worry was silly.

I went home and I feel very shaky and anxious about it, and I’ve taken my blood pressure numerous times throughout today and my top number is fine but the diastolic number is constantly above 80, and was even 91 at one point. I am only 30, and slim, so surely it shouldn’t be this high? - does anyone else have experience with this ? Does it get raised when you are stressed and go down when you are over that period of stress?

I’ve often been anxious but never had blood pressure issues before as my blood pressure is always fine, so I feel very concerned.

You are likely sending it high by repeatedly checking it and, if you aren’t checking it sitting calmly, taking the best of 3 readings, the cuff is lower than your heart, your bladder is full etc etc it might not be correct anyway.

You had it measured by a clinician who said it was fine. Try to relax.
It doesn’t trigger recheck unless it’s above 140/90 in the surgery.
