Hey everyone.

Just had psychiatrist appointment this morning as my OCD episodes are becoming more frequent.
She has changed me from sertraline which I have been on for about 6 years to fluoxetine.
Just wondered what meds others with intrusive thoughts take and how you find them.

Have you been weaned off your other tabs before going on new ones?

Ilovedogs1 · 14/12/2022 13:02

Hi. Yes I've got to slowly reduce my dose over a couple of weeks then start the fluoxitine.

Hi
i take fluoxetine for ocd and intrusive thoughts as well as generalised anxiety disorder
it has changed my life! I came off them for pregnancy but went back on them at 4 days post partum.
my intrusive thoughts spike in the week before my period and during my period but they’re much less and more manageable overall.

@ChristmasAtHogwarts Can i ask how do you manage the the compulsions apart from the intrusive thoughts? also have you always had OCD? I'm asking as I have a ds who has it.

@ChristmasAtHogwarts thank you for replying. Can I ask what sort of intrusive thoughts you get and how you manage them . I'm hoping the fluoxitine will work better than the sertraline.

Fluoxetine has been a miracle for me with the same problem.

Sending love out to you all. I've suffered all my life with ocd, I've finally feel in control of it but ive been in deep despair and I would not wish ocd on my worse enemy. My teenage ds is having the most awful time with ocd too and we've waited years for help from camh for therapy. He did get put on fluoxetine. It did help at first but he found it made him very sleepy and in his words 'everything feels grey' he's off those now and he can try Sertraline instead if he wants to.

Hey @Ilovedogs1 ,
I have been on paroxetine for an year for Anxiety, Intrusive Thoughts, Mood Swings etc. Paroxetine caused some weight gain and i felt ok so tapered them off
An year later when I was 19 years old I started Fluoxetine again and since then have been on them. I did go off them for almost two years but had some intrusive thoughts, mild to moderate (not frequent)anxiety and knew that meds took the edge off them and hence went back on them.
Since then i am doing good.

Hi
yes I get all sorts really. Thoughts of harm, bad things happening, repeating stuff in my head over and over. I allow myself to have the thoughts now and try to not respond to them. Fluoxetine makes this easier for me.
