Hi

I have been to my gp who had prescribed citalopram for my insomnia. I am not sure if this is right but does anyone have experience of it? She has prescribed 10mg

What is causing the insomnia? If your anxious the gp maybe trying to curtail that so you can test. Though in my experience this medication has no hypnotic effect. You could ask for 15mg mirtazapine, zopiclone or phenergan.

I have taken zoplicone but I feel like I now can't sleep without it and it's made the whole thing worse. I was on sertraline until a few months ago for pnd related to insomnia and since coming off the insomnia has spiralled . Gp says going on to citalopram will have fewer side effects than sertraline. Not sure what to do as I don't know this drug well

It's main use is for low mood and anxiety.

I have taken that before and one of its main side-effects for me was it stopped me from sleeping!

Strange choice for insomnia. Mirtazapine would be more appropriate unless you can't have it.
