How to practice mindfulness?

I've been struggling a lot with personal issues and general anxiety. I know majority recommend seeing my GP but trying to get an appointment is almost impossible and I want to try and manage on my own before resorting to that.

Some days are good, others are bad. My emotions are all over the place, I deal with a lot of feelings such as worthlessness, loneliness and general sadness. It comes and goes in bouts. But I have become increasingly aware that I haven't been happy for quite a long period of time and ever since I've recognised there is an issue, it's become a deeper issue almost?

Does anyone meditate or practice mindfulness, if so, does it work? Has anyone other recommendations?

TYIA.

The Headspace app is a pretty straightforward introduction, no gobbledegook.

Mindfulness to me is just really paying attention to something… so my advice would be to take something you enjoy (for me it’s eating something yummy like chocolate) and take your time to ‘feel all the feels!’ Really notice how the chocolate block snaps off the rest of the bar, the smell before you even eat it, the feel of it melting slowly in your mouth. Take you time and really notice every physical sensation connected with it. It makes things you like last longer and be even better!
that's mindfulness to me and I really enjoy it. I do it while gardening (feel of soil on my fingers) or when relaxing on the sofa (the feel of my warm fluffy blanket on my skin).
it gives me a break from all the relentless droning that my brain seems to do all the time otherwise. Works for me, good luck if you try it.

Sit quietly and notice that something is observing your unhappiness.

what is that?

I use the calm app and find it really helpful.

@Summerhillsquare Hi Summer - Thank you. Sadly, I've already tried Headspace; wasn't for me. Also trying to avoid going on my phone so much as I feel it's so toxic.
