Hi there. Just looking for experience of medicating ADD as an adult.

I was diagnosed with ADD in 2006. I took Atomoxetine for a few years . (The children were small and I've always worked full time, so I guess it helped me organise myself in what was obviously a busy time)

I know I stopped at some point around 2010.. but by that time my eldest and then when she went to Uni , my youngest DD were amazing at helping keep me 'straight' especially with money /budgeting etc. They were also amazingly competent teenagers who allowed me to focus on my career. Pretty much raised themselves.
Youngest went to Uni this year. I am now on my own and it's already falling apart. The unopened post is out of control. My bank account depleted a few days after payday.. paying stupid amounts of money in 'late payments' and fines for my incompetence and procrastination.
I have finally managed to have a phone call with my GP. He has suggested I try methylphenidate to see if symptoms improve.

I am a little reluctant. I seem to recall feeling more in control last time but also quite 'jittery' . This drug (Ritalin) is different from the one I tried before.

Anyone here currently taking this ? If so what are the side effects - if any ?

Yes, i am on 10mg of short acting dexamfetamine in the morning and then sometimes 5mg in the afternoon too.
I have tried a few types. I didnt like methyphenidate. Made me jittery. I actually found the long actimg elvanse best in many ways, but i prefer the control of the short acting one, and affects my sleep less.

Thank you so much for your reply. I am a little worried about the jitters. I guess I have to try and see how I get on. Anything is going to be better than the current chaos.

I am also a bit concerned about weight loss. I am quite slim and don't really need to lose much more. Did this medication affect your appetite?
