Low cost counselling

Does anyone know how I could access low cost counselling? I feel like I have a lot of problems that have built up over the years and I keep making terrible decisions in life. I need to talk things through with someone who can help me to change the way I think about myself and how to make positive changes in my life. I'm in a hole and I'm finding difficult to get out. No motivation at all. Just want to stay in the house and I'm not doing any of the things I'm supposed to be doing in the house either. I am already on a waiting list for cbt but I didn't really want cbt to be honest as I feel it's not getting to the root of my problems, it's just a coping mechanism. I want to talk to someone and offload all the shit that has built up over the years and see if I can find a way out of it, not cover it up even more than I already have.

Happy to have a chat - no cost, no commitment - to see if I can help.

Do you claim PIP? If not, you could apply for it and use your allowance for therapy. That’s what it’s there for

Please find a proper therapist, not just someone online.

Most therapists will charge on a sliding scale, so it’s worth asking when you contact them.

Approach a few private therapists. Mine lists his rate as £60 but sees me for half of that as my income is low. I was already seeing him though when he offered to drop it as I was struggling so there was a preexisting relationship there but a lot of therapists list a sliding scale on their website so it's always worth asking.

Where are you OP? I know of a therapy group that offer reduced rates for people seeing trainee therapists the therapy is fully supervised.

Try googling "low cost counselling" and your local area - lots of therapists in training offer low cost sessions, and some charities do too. Good luck - and keep trying until you get a counsellor that feels 'right'. It can take a few gos.

Thanks all. I've googled low cost counselling and emailed a charity type thing that came up. They use trainee therapists apparently.

I will approach some private ones too as I'd prefer face to face but the charity I found only does telephone calls or zoom sessions, which isn't ideal.

@Localher0 I'm in the north west on the edge of the peak district but within easy(ish) access to Manchester and Sheffield.
