Is it possible to feel better with a lower dose of Sertraline?

I started Sertraline a few months ago due to extreme anxiety. I started with a 50mg dose, which helped me massively, but at some point I was wondering if having a higher dose would improve my mood/anxiety even more, so my GP agreed to increase my dose to 100mg (at my request)

I didn't notice any improvement by increasin the dose; if anything, I'd say over the weeks I was feeling a bit worse than when I was on 50mg (I was on 100mg for 2 months). I also started to have heartburn and all types of gastric problems that would not stop. I decided to cut my 100mg pills in half to go back to the 50mg dose and my gastric problems have stopped and not only that, but I also feel better!

I am surprised that 50mg seems to be working much better for me...isn't it odd? Anyone with a similar experience? I would think that the higher the dose, the better you feel!
