Hello, has anyone had Trich and successfully overcome it? How? I am that desperate now I'm considering hypnotherapy. Please share your experiences of this, or any other method that has worked. I've lived with this for 30 years and I'm at my wits' end.

Hypnotherapy/remedial hypnosis has good results for trichotillomania - no need to be desperate to try it. There's a part of your subconscious mind (or inner child if you prefer) which developed this habit as a coping mechanism as a response to something that happened - most normally in childhood. By connecting with and talking to that part of you, the hypnotist can 'reset' that strategy. It's quick and generally a permanent solution.

I wouldn't say I've overcome it, no, but I've found a way to manage it I suppose.

I'm 42 and have done it since I was a small child. Now when I get the urge to pull I focus really really hard on how terrible I feel afterwards - the shame, the embarrassment, the having to explain bald patches the way I look in the mirror and hate myself for doing it. It a bit brutal but it does stop me doing it.

The problem is, once I start I can't stop, so I have to not start. It's really hard and all those feelings I described above means that nobody ever talks about it.

We need habit reversal training I think.
It's such a frustrating condition that's not talked about much.
I am looking into Lucinda Ellery hair piece. They put mesh over your bald area and so it means you can't access the hair to pull it.
I pull from two particular areas on my head rather than all over.

I haven't overcome it, but go through good and bad phases. When my iron levels are good, I pull less.

Thank you all. I pull from my lashes so sadly I can't get a hairpiece or similar. False lashes won't stay very well as they have no real ones to 'support' them. Thank you again, I appreciate the responses and I will look into hypnotherapy.

Happy to supply a list of CONTROL practitioners in the UK if you like. Most offer free initial consultations.

Yes please @Eyesopenwideawake
