PTSD

I have been diagnosed with PTSD following a traumatic event in my life. The team who assessed me were fantastic and they have referred me for trauma based CBT...waiting time is 1 year! I can't fault the team I spoke to, but a year for therapy for PTSD? Is this normal?

Unfortunately yes. There are some trauma services with 3 year waits! Have you tried speaking to your local IAPT service- they will often offer treatment for single incident/ less complex trauma and the wait should not be as long.

When something traumatic happens part of the subconscious goes into overdrive, trying to figure out what happened and why, so that it can ensure you avoid that situation ever happening again in the future.

Unfortunately some things are just so random, or are caused by damaged people, and there will never be a complete and satisfactory resolution. The subconscious doesn't realise this and will keep rerunning the trauma from every angle which is why you end up with PTSD.

Have a think about remedial hypnosis - it can be very effective.
