So I’m 31 and have smoked since I was in my late teens, and gave up for 2.5 years when Covid hit, but due to worsening anxiety have started again the last 4 months.

So here a little on what’s going on, so for years when I wake up in the morning and take a deep breath i feel like I can’t and it hurts, finally saw dr in 2019 and had ecg, chest x ray and asthma tests, all came back fine.
Fast forward to July this year, I had a cold and when we had the really hot weather we bought an air con unit and I started waking in the middle of the night with a tight chest and chalked in up to the dry air from air on and weather.
Few weeks went by and this seems to have subsided, but was left with a phlegmy clear cough, nothing major almost more having to just clear your throat phlegm but constantly, I do suffer with shoulder and back pain and have done for some time, but that plays on my mind also and now I think I have caught my daughters cold, and my chest is burning and now I’m worried that if I do have cancer that is going to make it so much more worrying, I know I need to go and see a doctor for chest x ray ect, but I’m just so scared, I have spent the last few ours reading lung cancer support forums trying to prepare myself for when they tell me I have it 😱😱

So the cigarettes are no longer helping with the anxiety. They are causing you health anxiety.
at 31 you probably don’t have lung cancer. Go and see the gp and get your chest checked, and ask about your anxiety.
Pack in the cigarettes. Try whatever you think might work for you - niccotine replacement, chewing gum etc.

I do already suffer with health anxiety so I do know that sometimes I get extremely anxious and worry and things excessively, I just don’t know where to start with not smoking again. Last time
i did it cold turkey because of Covid, going out
to the shops
ect, this time I don’t think I have the willpower to do it, I have been trying to book a gp
appointment for weeks, they have made it really complicated and difficult since Covid!

I have lung cancer. I've already had a lung removed and now it's back in my other lung. It is terminal. There's a lot more to it than smoking. I have never smoked. It's caused by a genetic mutation..you are very young to have it and if your weight is stable and you're not coughing blood, it's unlikely. But you should get yourself checked, preferably with a CT scan..one of my tumours was big but didn't appear on an X-ray because it hid behind a rib. And pack in the smoking.

Im so sorry to hear of your diagnosis! I hope you are feeling well at the moment!
thank you for taking your time to write, I know its Something I need to do! I feel like I go round in circles using the cigarettes as a help for the anxiousness of the worrying about lung cancer, very stupid really!
