antidepressants - can i drink alcohol

i'm just about to begin taking antidepressants again, does anyone know if i will be able to drink alcohol while on them?

I don't know for sure about all ADs, but I could certainly drink alcohol while on Prozac.

You say again, though. Don't you remember from the first time?

i haven't drunk for quite a while and have always in the past avoided it while on these, the Doctor has put me on LUSTRAL this time, last time it was different - i've been on prozac and seroxat before - Now, coming up to Christmas there are a few invitations out and i have had the odd night drinking recently but now the doctor wants me to start taking lustral after a break from antidepressants for nearly a year. So i don't know what to do, i read the leaflet but it doesn't say much.

Tess, there's a thread here which might help.

I don't have any personal experience of Lustral, but I've had a look in a couple of books and on the pharmaceutical sites on Google, and alcohol is not recommended with Lustral. You could always ask a pharamcist if you don't want to call your doctor, they will have all the relevent information.

I was put on Lustral several years ago - and have to confess that I had (usually) quite small amounts of alcohol whilst on it and was okay. If you do decide to drink on alcohol 1)take it very slowly at first - ADs can make you drunker quicker and 2)bear in mind that alcohol is a depressant so best to avoid excessive drinking for that reason alone. But see what your doctor says!

No particular side effect problems - but when my dose was increased I felt quite dopey/sleepy so best to watch out for that if your dose gets increased.
