Experience when trying to read a book

I'm currently feeling extremely low. It's a mixture of circumstances and hormones (mid 40's and perimenopausal).

I love reading and usually find it a welcome distraction when I'm feeling low.
However, yesterday I tried to read a chapter of the book I'm currently reading (and had been enjoying), but just sat frozen staring unseeingly at the page.
I realised half an hour had passed when I had just been sat at that same page without actually having read anything.
I've had times before when I have scanned the words with my eyes and then had to reread it because none of it sank in, but never this extreme.
I was thinking about other things and just feeling incredibly sad.

This happens to me as well
I love reading normally but it isn't the best thing when my brain is failing or when I'm sad. TV is better in those times.

Reading is impossible for me when I'm struggling mentally. The year before I started Sertraline I read 3 books all year.

This year, so far, I've read 50.

That's the difference, it is nothing short of incredible.

This happens to me too. Not as much as it used to but still noticeable. I'm not sure what to suggest, I'm sorry.

Sending you best wishes. x
