Propranolol for anxiety

Anyone have experience of taking propranolol for the physical symptoms of anxiety? I’m currently started on 40mg once per day. I’m only taking it as and when at the moment because I’m worried that I’ll become “tolerant” to it if that makes sense? What are people’s experiences?

I found it hugely helpful.
I was taking 40mg 3 x a day a few years back for a period of a couple of years. It unfortunately caused tinnitus (it’s in the possible side effects) but I couldn’t have survived without it.
I did slowly reduce my dose and wean myself off it and didn’t take it for a few years at all but I am now back to taking 20mg each morning and lunch time during the week, just to get me through work. I cut my 40mg tablets in half as I want to take the least amount possible, I take 20mg weekend mornings as my body has obviously got used to the am dose and I do get a bit jittery without it but probably could do without if just staying home, I then just take it if needed i.e going to an appointment or something.
There are times at night in bed, when my head won’t switch off and I start having a panic, that I take a full 40mg tablet and that seems to knock me out. It does make my tinnitus louder though if I take more than usual.
I didn’t find the effectiveness lessened when I was on it for a couple of years.

That’s good you didn’t find effectiveness lessen, I’m assuming you were gradually increased to 40mg 3xdaily? I do feel it’s working a little bit but still getting physical feelings of feeling tense and feeling in stomach, how soon is too soon to ask for an increase?

I've been on 2 x40mg for 5 years now, everyday, and although I can't notice it having an effect per se as still suffer physical affects of anxiety,I definitely notice if I skip a dose.

Me! I have 80mg a day.

It's also completely cured my migraines so double win.

Sorry I pressed send to soon!

I've been on them since 2018 and they're bloody brilliant for anxiety.

I had a week off as I ran out and there was a shortage - sometime in lockdown and I really noticed the difference.

I am a 5km runner and have found propranolol hasnt affected my fitness. I also have MS.

Overall- its a goodun

I have been given propranolol to take while I get used to SSRI side effects, I was prescribed 40mg twice per day like you but I have also been taking them ‘as and when’ I feel the need instead, I don’t want to have to wean off them. Someone said to me 40mg could make me sleepy so I started off on 20mg when the physical anxiety was high, and I have found it highly effective - kicks in between 30-60 mins after taking it. I had a particularly anxious day on Sunday and took 40mg, it made me feel much better - but I haven’t needed to take them daily.

That should say ‘I was prescribed 40mg twice once per day’

Yes, I used to take it. It was bloody brilliant, stopped me having panic attacks almost straightaway. I can't remember my dosage but it did make me sleepy - I fell asleep on the sofa most evenings. Better than the insomnia I have previously though!

I took it for about two years and slowly weaned myself off, mainly by forgetting to take it because I was no longer feeling anxious.
