Benefits for bipolar disorder

Hi! I've recently been diagnosed with bipolar one, at the ripe old age of 35.
I have no way of working at the present moment and need some way to support myself until I am fit enough to return to the workplace.
Has anyone successfully claimed disability benefits/PIP for bipolar?
I hear it's easy to get fobbed off/they pay no attention unless you have physical health problems.
Please advise, thanks!

I've recently applied for PIP, had my telephone assessment yesterday, so I'm now waiting to hear whether I qualify.

I get PIP for bipolar at the standard rate and LCWRA on universal credit.
