Health anxiety or something serious?

I have suffered with severe health anxiety for a while which has been controlled for about 8 months with sertraline, until now :( I have had these sharp pains in one of my temples for around 1.5 weeks. Only happen once or twice a day and last for no more than 10 seconds. The past couple of days they haven’t really happened and I thought, great! Until I went for a walk this evening and it happened again. I honestly don’t know what to think. Ice pick headaches? Sinus issues? Something sinister? I have had to increase my sertraline medication because of all this. I’ve obviously slipped back to where I used to be. I’ve found myself online googling symptoms and thinking the worst. :(

Stop googling. Now!!!!
Do they happen at certain times? I get pains if I need new glasses or have dry eyes or am dehydrated. Lots of silly reasons.

I have that a lot it comes in phases say over a month then will go away for 6 mths then back again . Had it for years . I have health anxiety too and used to worry over it lots but had it so long now .

I know I really need to @Wolfiefan I feel so disappointed in myself for going back to that place. @Elliejane that’s reassuring. Did you ever see a GP about them?

I think I maybe did and they were not sure but maybe just shooting nerve pain or hormonal . Was just a really quick pain then goes away right at side of my head above ear.

It def nothing serious in my view .

I too have slipped in to a health anxiety loop this week after months of being well. Mines focused on cancer in my uterus/ovaries/cervix

It really is awful and I feel for you xxx

Honestly it will be nothing. Or tension. Write down symptoms and worst fears. And revisit in six months when you are still alive and kicking. This helped me hugely. I’m now take duloxetine for anxiety and it helps enormously. Anxiety tap turned off.

Thank you! It really is awful isn’t it! The amount of times I’ve convinced myself I have something serious is crazy. I really thought I was on the right track with it all. I hope it is just tension. Google always suggests otherwise and to go to get it investigated ect. It’s awful :(

The weathers starting to change op at night. Do you have any arthritis or get headaches with pressure changes? I do and I get these weird shooting pains on one side in my temple. Just random and they come and go but always when there's a weather change.

Haggisfish3 · 27/08/2022 23:23

That’s very true. Dh suffers with migraines when the air pressure changes. Could cause lesser symptoms like shooting pains!

ACCx · 28/08/2022 07:32

Yes I do actually. I feel slight pressure in my ears like they’re a bit congested. Perhaps the weather is having an effect?

Could be the air pressure. Some people feel it in their sinuses/head/ears.
Landing when on a plane is torture for me, going up is uncomfortable but landing I'm in such pain with my ears it goes into my neck. It's all to do with pressure changes it does strange things when your sensitive.
Keep a track on the weather, you might find it happens just before the weather changes, the change when winter is coming is worse for some.
