Med or peri-menopause?

i was on sertraline for a while. All was fine but after a few months I had some 'tummy issues' so asked to move to something else. GP switched me to citalopram. Again all has been fine for a 2/3 mths but I'm suddenly finding I'm really sweaty and hot almost all the time and having hot flushes too. I don't know if this is meds related or if I'm possibly peri menopausal (age 41). Any one have any idea?

I didn’t have experience of that antidepressants but it is possible you could be peri menopausal. Peri can start up to ten years before menopause and looking back at my own experience this was definitely the case for me but as I have an existing major health problem I put it down to that. If you’re lucky your GP will be aware of this but this wasn’t my experience and so many problems I had were fobbed off as something else. I hope someone else is able to shed some light of the antidepressants for you x good luck

@OliviaBond Hi Olivia,

I am sorry to hear about your issues. They are uncomfortable and often ignored by doctors.

I had terrible nightsweats and hot flushes caused by sertraline administration. They were so bad I had to change my clothes during the night. I am 39 so I was worried about peri. The moment I stopped them, the nightsweats were gone, together with all the other uncomfortable side effects.

Hope this helps!
