Has anyone took Propranolol for anxiety?

Doctor has prescribed 10mg for me to take 3 times a day.

I've heard if you take it every day your body gets used to it in the long term so you don't feel the effects of it any more. Is this true?

I'm also having very vivid nightmares every night, do these stop after a while?

Please let me know any of your personal experiences!

Ive taken it for about 2 years, 20mg/day. Havent noticed any lessening of effects. No nightmares for me. Keep going x

I take it when required, down to a couple of times a week now. Never noticed any side effects or lessening of effectiveness.

I take it x

I took it when I was going through a very stressful personal crisis a few years ago. It was brilliant. I kept a few pills back to use for panicky moments and they have been a godsend. I don’t have any left now and I’d like to get another prescription but the thought of going to the doctor to get some more is giving me anxiety! Ironic!

I take it as and when, wouldn't be without it.

Sometimes I can't get through aday without regular doses, other times I can go a month without it.

Dreams have not been an issue for me, so I can't advise about that I'm afraid.

10mg doses weren't high enough for me but when I was taking it daily for months I didn't notice myself becoming tolerant.

I took it daily for a while, then when needed, haven’t needed any for several months as now taking Citalopram.
i had very vivid dreams, this eased after a couple of months. I found the medication really helpful overall.

I take it, although not regularly any more. I didn't notice any lessening of effect but after a while my circumstances were changing so I started to see if I could do without. Now if I take one occasionally for anxiety then it helps. I don't remember nightmares, to be honest. At the time, my waking hours were bad enough!

I'm on 40mg three times a day. It's really helped me x

I take a low dose of 10mg most days. I was having panic attacks and physically feeling anxiety. It for sure takes the edge off. Also doing CBT to address underlying issues. I've had no issues with it.

I've been prescribed diazepam for nearly 11 years now for my anxiety and panic attacks (I have agoraphobia with panic disorder). I'm only 33 aswell. Could anyone tell me the difference between propranalol vs diazepam if they know? I.e how long does it last, how long to take effect etc. Obviously after 11 years my dose has increased from 2mg twice daily to 10mg up to three times daily depending how I am. have had CBT etc and on waiting list again, and I'm on 200mg of sertraline.
surprised the doctors have never once questioned my usage (but happy!)

I went off it quite quickly it gave me horrendous sweating episodes. Sounds silly but have you tried cutting out sugar and caffeine? Going low carb made a huge difference in stabilising my mood (after the initial adjustment)

I’m on 40mg once a day and have been for a few years now and honestly for me it’s been a game changer. My anxiety was at the point were there wasn’t a moment in the day I didn’t have the knot in my stomach, that feeling of dread and it’s stopped all that.
I still get anxious, it’s not a miracle cure but it stopped the physical reaction I used to get which in turn allows me to get past the thought and carry on with my day.
