Fluoxetine Increase Advice / Experience

My doc has suggested increasing my dose of fluoxetine from 40 to 60.

I have been on 40 for a few years after going up through the doses of Sertraline before that. Despite this I am currently having a very bad episode with my MH.

I wondered if anyone else has been / is on 60? Did you get side effects going up?

Did you find that 60 worked for you?I am worried about going on the highest dose as there is nowhere to go from there and I would have to change to a new kind which I am terrified about.

Hi there, I have been on fluoxetine for many years and increased my dose from 40 to 60 on quite a few occasions. My main side affect was feeling dizzy when moving my head too quickly or standing up too fast from a sitting position. I also feel a bit headachy. You just have to be a little more aware of these things but they do settle down after a while (but don't completely go in my case). When I've been on the higher dose for a few months and start to feel the benefit I then discuss with my doctor about lowering it again back to 40 - but this is a discussion you will need to have with your doctor don't just do it yourself. Hope this helps. Big hug x

As above with the dizziness, but I also had nausea and started lactating despite my LO being almost 3 and never breastfed.

Hi Sherbert,

That is really helpful . Thank you for replying.

It is reassuring to hear that you were able to come back down again and that you found the side effects manageable.

I get really stressed about changes to my medication which is not great when I am already having really bed physical anxiety symptoms.

Hearing a positive experience has been good.

I'm glad I could reassure you. You will know when the time is right for you to approach your doctor about going down to a lower dose. Good luck x
