Just wondering if anyone has taken or is taking this?
Did you find it helpful?
Any side effects?

I take it for migraines but it's massively helped my anxiety too. No side effects x

gamerchick · 27/07/2022 17:12

I was on it for years. Marvellous for managing the physical effects of anxiety. I did get a bit of a tight chest for the first couple of week but that passed.

lovelyboneslove · 27/07/2022 17:13

I use it for migraines and anxiety. I did put on 3 stone though.

Goodnewsday · 27/07/2022 17:15

I use it for social anxiety in certain situations or when I’m nervous about something at work. It’s kind of like a crutch now that I think I’d panic if I knew I hadn’t taken it but it does seem to help. No side effects

Rutland2022 · 27/07/2022 17:15

Bloody amazing. It has completely stopped my migraines which were anxiety linked.

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 27/07/2022 17:20

I use it for anxiety and it works really well. It calms the physical symptoms which makes it easier to cope.

Snowshower · 27/07/2022 17:26

Thanks everyone,

That has reassured me a bit as it seems mostly positive.

I am struggling at the moment and find taking new medicine pretty scary.

For those taking it for anxiety, can I ask do you take it daily or just as needed? And how long have been taking it?

Life saver. I was having severe physical symptoms of anxiety when not even particularly worrying about anything. I take this as soon as I start to feel it and on days when I know I'm going to be under pressure (like presenting at work).

AliceMcK · 27/07/2022 17:27

I use it for anxiety and panic attacks. I didn’t like the every day pill so now I just use it as and when I need it. It definitely helps.

AliceMcK · 27/07/2022 17:28

Been taking it for about 2.5 years.

UserError012345 · 27/07/2022 17:28

I just take it when needed. No long term side effects. Deals with the physical symptoms of anxiety. But does leave you to address the why (cause of anxiety). No dependency.

TomAllenWife · 27/07/2022 17:31

I take it for flights, along with other things 😉

It's great for that but if I take it normally I find it hard to exercise effectively as I can't get my heart rate up. If I run when I'm taking it it's like running in lead boots.

Didn't help me at all for migraines though

Just as needed. Fabulous for my driving test they were. I was on them for about 6 years and then discovered weights and gyms. Don't need them now.

I use it the same way. Probably one day every few months. It works brilliantly for presentations.

wellhelloitsme · 27/07/2022 17:49

I've found it really helpful for anxiety.

It quiets the physical symptoms (racing heart, palpitations etc) which means I don't spiral into a panic and can concentrate on what I'm doing.

Haven't had a panic attack since starting them and I just take them as and when needed.

Hope that helps Flowers

D0lphine · 27/07/2022 17:51

Propranolol is the fucking best.

Why it wasn't prescribed to me years ago I'll never know.

Snowshower · 27/07/2022 18:01

Thanks everyone, that is really helpful.

I have been prescribed them to help with severe anxiety symptoms, sounds a bit similar to you @honeybeep.

I occasionally get spells when I struggle to sleep and ping awake first thing in the morning with terrible physical symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, shaking, panicky, of anxiety without any cause. It gradually dies down as the day goes on until I feel fine by evening, until first thing the next morning when it starts all over.

I am feeling a lot better about giving it a try tomorrow morning.

@Pinkandpurplehairedlady that sounds like exactly what I need. Something to calm down the symptoms and help me cope with the mornings.

@TomAllenWife that is really interesting about exercising. I am trying to get a bit more active so will watch out for that.

Life changing for anxiety. No panic attacks since I first started taking it. I was prescribed 40mg per day as my anxiety was so bad, but found I could take 10mg and still have the same effect. I now only take it as and when needed. Feel like myself again after taking it and can focus without all the horrible physical symptoms.

Snowshower · 27/07/2022 18:15

@gamerchick great to hear you have found a more permanent solution to your anxiety through exercise.

I am quite active, but have let my routine slip over recent months and I know that probably has contributed. I am kicking myself for that now and trying to get back into better habits again.

Being out in the fresh air definitely helps.

@UserError012345 yes absolutely, looking for some short term relief just now, I know the underlying issues will need to be addressed. I have been avoiding that as much as possible for 10 years and it has not got me very far!!

chilliesandspices · 27/07/2022 18:22

Oh I forgot to mention that I've used it when I've woken in the middle of the night with a feeling of dread and a tight chest. Propranolol combined with a podcast gets me back to sleep.

Rutland2022 · 27/07/2022 18:28

I take it daily now. Without it the migraines return, it also keeps the panic in check but I am on a low dose.

In the past when I had a particular anxiety crisis I needed to take a higher dose, but then it changed to only as needed for a few years.

But then I started getting the awful migraines and the regular propranolol has just stopped them in their tracks, I was living off painkillers before.

I haven’t noticed any side effects, unless I skip a couple of doses (by accident), then I do feel palpitations and a bit odd.
