Sertraline side effects

Hi, another post as still struggling.

I’m on sertraline 50mg 12 days now and I am really starting to doubt they are for me. I’m constantly getting lightheaded and waves of anxiety/panic. I am also quite short of breath every now and then but have periods where it goes. I just feel that sertraline has made my anxiety so much worst and want to know will these side effects go. Palpitations, short of breath, lightheaded, fatigue and sudden waves of anxiety even when feel relaxed. TIA

I'd give it another few weeks at least, you tend to feel worse for a while when you start but it should improve. If not, go back to your GP and have a chat. Flowers

Myzone
how are you getting on with Sertraline now?

Myzone · 01/09/2022 09:42

@starNT i was feeling somewhat better last week but the last 2 days I have been extremely lightheaded. I almost feel as if I’m drunk

Did all your other symptoms subside? I’m only on 25mg going onto 50mg today and my anxiety/ palpitations and being short of breath has been horrendous. Scared to even change to 50mg

Usernameisgone · 01/09/2022 21:35

I had side effects like that for around 6weeks, then slowly the fog lifted! Honestly if you can bear it.

Myzone · 02/09/2022 08:49

@Xkinder they started to after a few weeks but have come back again as I upped to 75mg. I wouldn’t say they completely went they away just eased. How long have you been on sertraline

I started the 50mg last night. Woke up completely anxious. Only been on them for 9 days so a long way to go for me it feels. Doesn’t feel worth it at the moment

@Xkinder @Myzone I've been taking 25mg of Sertaline for 9 days and have been experiencing palpitations, chest tension and shortness of breath. I'm supposed to increase dose to 50mg after a week - I'm not going to until the current side effects subside, if at all.
I didn't experience side effects like this when taking 10mg of Citalopram last year - just chest tension and agitation. Can anyone assure me, that although I'm only taking 25mg, that the heart palpitations will disappear?
Also, will I experience heightened symptoms, if I increase dose to 50mg?

I have found today after taking the 50mg I’m much the same but my short of breath and chest tension is easing up. My heart rate is still just as high but I am very anxious still

Myzone · 02/09/2022 16:58

I have just started 100mg today. The last 2 days I have been very anxious with a constant fast heartbeat. Very jittery also

I’m feeling the same. I’ve never been so out of breath or felt my heart so much. I had a better day yesterday than today tho. How long is that now you’ve been taking yours?

Myzone · 03/09/2022 16:32

@Xkinder 2 days at 100mg 8 weeks on sertraline all together. The out of breath and the fast heart rate just keep setting of my health anxiety which doesn’t help

@Myzone is that why you’re taking them? That’s what mine is for. Constantly worrying about my health. My heart specifically. My sister has been on these before for depression and she found them to be amazing. It’s a vicious cycle feeling worse before better because it doesn’t feel worth it at this point. More anxious than before

Myzone · 03/09/2022 18:07

@Xkinder yes I struggle daily with health anxiety and GAD. I wake up at 5 most mornings with heightened anxiety which I didn’t before sertraline. Last week I had a decent week but this week has been just as bad as the first 3. I have been told to give it 12 weeks to see the real benefits. Have you checked sertraline support group on Facebook. It’s brilliant for support

@Myzone I've had the same. Woke up 3 times last night in a panic. I've had panic attacks in my sleep before but this seems more frequent since starting. 12 weeks is a long time but you've made it this far. You're really giving it a good go. I've literally just requested to join. Never knew it existed

ScruffMuffin · 03/09/2022 22:59

Didn't suit me at all (I've been through 7 different ones over the years)... had little effect and made my hair fall out.
