Just asking for opinions on returning to a place where a traumatic event occurred in the past?

Is it better to make yourself do it/ face your fears/ not give in to it?
I did this and I now feel horrendous.

Or is it better to avoid entering that building?

I have taken a real dive with my mental health since going back there.

When a person suffers from a trauma part of the subconscious mind becomes 'responsible' for it; either figuring out (or trying to figure out) what happen or making sure it doesn't happen again. So if it associates a building with an event it will trigger the fear emotion to make sure you stay away from there, even though your conscious mind knows that it's just a place.

Depending on what happened and when you might be able to overcome the fear by proving there's nothing (now) to be afraid of or you might need some professional help to resolve the trauma.
