Citalopram withdrawal

Hello,

Hoping for some advice from people who have successfully come off this drug (I’ve read some older threads!)

I was on 20mg for two years, felt really good on it but gained 2 stone and decided to taper off. Cut down to 10mg, then to 5mg over a period of 3 weeks or so and stopped about a week ago. I feel absolutely horrendous - sick, woozy, anxious, tearful, can’t focus, just exhausted. Did I come off too fast? Should I go back to 5mg for a few weeks and then cut to 2.5mg for a few weeks? I didn’t expect to feel this awful. Or should I ride it out as it’ll stop in a week or two? How long do these side effects take to go away?

Any experiences or advice much appreciated!

I've recently came off the same medication in exactly the same was as you after the same amount of years!!! At the same time I completely overhauled my diet and after never exercising began exercising on a 5 x a week basis. I haven't noticed coming off the meds. But I do think the food choices and exercise is having such a positive impact that's its majorly helped. Hopefully someone will come along with some advice... but the above was my experience.

I think you should consult your GP

I only managed to come off Citalopram after 2 previous attempts ended in failure . Withdrawal symptoms were awful . Third time I did it over a period of two months . Very , very small adjustments each time .

You need to speak to your GP. That’s far too fast.
