Have you ever had ERP for OCD?

Title says it all really - I am wondering whether I should maybe go for it!

Hi,

Yes! It was difficult at start but really helped! Im also a therapist that uses ERP woth clients and have found it successful for a lot of clients.. Give it time and keep trying will be my advice.. Hope it goes well 😊

@blibbyblobb Thanks for the reply! Am I correct in saying the summary of it is exposing ourselves to triggers or being okay with the unknown? The only reason I ask is I'm considering doing a ERP self-paced course as I am currently away from home so I just want to make sure I have the right idea!

Yes,kind of,but it's done gradual, tasks will be repeated and prolonged without compulsions/distractions until anxiety reduces by 50%. It works by breaking the links between your obsessional thoughts, images, urgues or impulses and rhe compulsive things that you do to reduce the distress or anxiety they cause. It is best done with support of a mental health practitioner/therapist as it can be challenging at first, but see how you get on and if its difficult i would see if you can get support.
