Hi, I'm starting with a CBT therapist on the 5th July and just have some things running around in my head about it.
I don't know if it's right for me, as I thought CBT was about the "here and now" as opposed to what's happened in the past....I was told I'd be starting trauma therapy for CSA...but that wouldn't be what CBT is, would it? Will the CBT therapist have access to all Mt notes from the MH assessments I had? Will she see the CSA disclosure? The appt is via zoom, would I need to keep my camera on throughout the appt?

I had my first CBT session last week. I have childhood abuse trauma, trauma from being homeless as a teenager, trauma from a domestic violence relationship... I was asked to write down situations in the week and how I react to them. I have no family, no friends, no partner or husband, I can't work or barely leave the house. So there are no 'situations'. Nothing. And this is supposed to help me.

I live in a deprived area of Merseyside with one of the highest suicide rates in the country. The only therapies available through the NHS are CBT and EMDR, because they are cheap, quick fixes. If I lived in a nearby town or city there better therapies available but here there is nothing. How is this acceptable, it is scandalous. And people on Mumsnet post on a mental health forum because they have a virus and don't feel well.

Hi

Sorry to hear about the distressing trauma you are have and still are experiencing

CBT will be looking at the here and now, so it will work on the flashbacks and/or nightmares that are currently happening and help to reduce the intensity/distress of these. Your first few sessions will lool at the past but the initial treatment will focus on the present symptoms of PTSD. Hope that makes sense. All that best
