DM has depression but is also horrible!

My mother has depression which I completely accept is a terrible mental illness she can’t help. The issue is that she’s also a bitch! She makes nasty comments, lies, upsets people, is manipulative and seems to delight in the misery of others, mainly me. So I guess the question is…. Does the depression give her a free pass? Is the lying and being horrible linked to the depression as it’s making her want everyone to be unhappy like her? Is it grossly irresponsible to “push back” on someone who has said they are suicidal? Any advice appreciated! Thank you.

Depression is very common in modern society. Many, many people suffer from depression and still manage to practice empathy and kindness.
I have suffered depression for 20 years and have never bullied anyone.
Your mum’s depression and toxic nature are two separate issues and you absolutely don’t have to tolerate it.
Threats of suicide are manipulative and abusive and designed to control you and allow her to get away with treating people like shit. You don’t have to take any of it.

Thanks @BingeBitch ive had depression and anxiety and managed not to be a total cow. She just wants pity constantly and I’m struggling to tell if it’s depression and needing help or she just wants me to jump when she says so and lure me to her so she can have a go at me.
