What happens if you don’t have a care manager under adult services?

My son turned 18 last September and transferred from Cahms. He is on medication not working with side effects he’s struggling with and dealing with a huge amount of trauma and intrusive thoughts from things that have happened to him and a police case. His autism pathway assessment which Cahms started has been lost. He had a care manager who was dire then left. Might as well have not had anybody. Still no therapy and not seen a psych but finally they’re trying to arrange an appointment after 9 months since he transferred. What is the difference between not having one and having one?

It is called a care coordinator (not a care manager). My expérience with my daughter after she was transferred from CAMHS is that it makes l8ttle difference. The term initially made me laugh (ironically) as there was no care to Coordinate.
If you have a care Coordinator you are under "care plan approach"; if you don't you are under "standard approach." My daughter lost her care coordinator during covid - it was never an official décision to downgrade her care but her care coordinator left and wasn't replaced. I can't say I have noticed much of a difference.
I would suggest phoning the Young Minds helpline. I found them helpful.for finding out what we ought to be able to expect when going through a very mismanaged transfer from CAMHS.

I ended up finding a private therapist after six months and several suicide attempts including two that were almost fatal. After 2 years on the waiting list for therapy (after CAMHS said there should be a gap if no more than 2 to 3 weeks) she removed herself from the waiting list and decided to stick with her private therapist.

He’s apparently on the urgent waiting list for another. 🤔

So was my daughter! I wanted her to stay on the waiting-list just to see how long it would take for her to get to the top.
She has had 4 different psychiatrsts in the last 12 months as they keep leasing. There is no continuity of care.
