I’m looking to help out a good friend who I think will benefit from EDMR but don’t know where to start with regards to finding therapist.
She doesn’t want to see GP and I think the waiting lists are too long anyway.
We’re in north west, Greater Manchester/wigan area.
Thanks in advance.

It's actually EMDR and I have had it. Unfortunately I am not in your area and it's too far to travel. I would recommend asking her GP for a referral. If she won't see her GP she will have to pay but the GP is better. I didn't have to wait long at all.

Sorry!! My bad!!

no she didn’t want to go to Gp because of her job she is looking to pay.

Look on the BACP website, only properly accredited/qualified people are allowed on their site. There's a filter so you can put in your area and then put EMDR as your keyword/search term.

I think that most therapists at the moment are doing online sessions, so geographically it shouldn't matter. Two members of my immediate family are having help right now, one with EMDR and one with general counselling and both are online.

EMDR is not safe to be done online in my experience - it made me horrifically unwell.

I saw a face-to-face therapist who did offer it (although I didn't have it with her), let me try and find the contact details if she is still working.

TrailWhale - sorry for your experience. Just to put a different experience out there, my dd is the one who has/is having the EMDR treatment and it has only ever been online as it started during COVID. She is now about to have her final treatment (success!), and online has not been an issue for her. I've made sure that she wasn't alone in the house though and have made sure that she is OK following each session. Perhaps it depends upon the individual circumstances, so it's a valid point you make. x

Sorry I realise not replied.
Thanks for all info. She’s getting some help now that is working so will bear all info in mind if needed. Thank you.
