Friend has really bad depression at the moment and doesn’t want to tell any of their family.

I’m trying to be as supportive as I can but I don’t live in the same country so can’t visit them and I’m getting a bit worried. What’s the best way to try help them?

I actually have bad anxiety and used to have depression so I’m scared of saying/doing the wrong thing.

Actually I asked for my post above to be removed because I think it is too simplistic. The key questions are how depressed are they and are they getting medical help?

Are they talking about suicide? If so, you have a lot on your plate. Do they talk with anyone else at all?

She told me a few months ago she was feeling suicidal, and she has been to the doctors. I think I’m the only person she has confided in and has asked me before not to tell her parents. I’m not sure what else to do other than keep on checking in with her?

Nothing you can do. If she is suicidal, you will be unable to stop that. I would simply continue to chat and listen.
