Citalopram to Sertraline

So I've been taking Citalopram for over 10 years now going between 20mg and 40mg. Currently taking 40mg but I feel they are bo longer working so my Dr has recommended Sertraline. She has advised me to take 20mg Citalopram for the next 2 days then nothing on Friday and straight on to Sertraline on Saturday. It just doesn't seem right... I thought coming off Citalopram would take weeks of gradually lowering the dose? Or because Sertraline is another SSRI would that cancel out any withdrawal from the Citalopram?

I didn't want to leave you unanswered so I found this:
cks.nice.org.uk/topics/depression/prescribing-information/switching-antidepressants/#from-ssri
I hope the link has worked. It sounds like a direct switch is possible, but also that your
GP feels the way they have suggested is a better option.

Sorry, forgot to tag you @Roxy1988.

@vipersnest1 thank you so much for that! Maybe what I have read about reducing dose gradually is if you are completely coming of SSRI's
