Hello.. I am 25 + 2 today.. I am on antidepressant on and off from past 4 years. My gp suggested me to continue while pregnancy. But I am worried about my baby's health. Also gp suggested me stop after 34th week. I am worried about my baby's health but at the same time I am scared for relapsing if I stop. Now what to do? Anyone has continue throughout pregnancy?

Is there any other option we can take till delivery?? Please help!

Hi I started taking ad when I was 5 months pregnant, I’ve always suffered with anxiety and panic attacks throughout all my pregnancies, I’ve still on them now my daughter was born with no problems and I breast fed her, maybe tell your doctor you are very worried to come off them

I took citalopram throughout my first pregnancy - baby was fine! He's now a happy active 20 month old. I've continued to take them through this pregnancy as well and have no concerns.

I don't know why your GP would tell you to come off at 34 weeks, mine have always said it's better to stay the course. Maybe ask your midwife or another GP.

@bogoblin thank you for your reply. I will discuss again with my gp. Did you continue to take after delivery too? While breast feeding?

I did, basically right through to this pregnancy as well. I did breastfeed at first then pumped for a bit - midwives were fine with it, only very small amounts can pass through into the breastmilk I believe.

At first I was concerned because he was so sleepy and thought it might have had an effect but they assured me he was fine - just a very sleepy newborn! Over a year on and he's fab.

For me it was important I kept my mental health on an even keel - becoming a parent is a big deal and I was glad to stick with my citalopram, the hormones are hard enough without me trying to come off it as well.

Good luck with your GP and pregnancy!

I took sertraline throughout my pregnancy and breastfeeding. My baby is fine and they keep a close eye to make sure everything is okay.
