So scared to take my medication

I've been given Quetiapine for my BPD, I'm so so scared to take it.. I've heard it makes you drowsy and my anxiety gets so bad when taking medication, drinking anything that makes me feel 'not in control'

Just wanting reassurance from people who take it that I'll be okay, I know I will be but hearing it from others who have taken it might help?

I have a son but my partner is here to help but I'm so worried ...

What dose are you starting on, hopefully a nice low dose and you will feel relaxed and have a good evening. Is it meant to help you feel more stable, good luck im sure it will be fine xx

It’s a good medication for anxiety
Not likely to make you drowsy, should feel less anxious

It's only 25mg so the lowest dose :) I think it's just my anxiety but I'm so scared

I have no idea if this will help you at all but Louise Thompson from Made in Chelsea has posted about how much this particular medication has helped her after she suffered a traumatic birth with her son, nearly died etc. If you are on Instagram and look her up you can read through some of her posts.

I've been on 25mg for over a year, for insomnia and anxiety. Works like a dream for both. You absolutely don't feel out of control, I just felt very sleepy if woken shortly after taking it. I had a newborn when I started on it, so just got dp to take the first few hours of the night. It suits me really well, don't be afraid!

Thank you 😊 honestly having someone who was in the same situation as me and knowing you took 25mg and had a newborn and your partner helped really just helps me feel a lot better! My anxiety is crazy bad! I really want to stop feeling like this but I can't even take the first step to take it! I'm going to take it soon as we've just put my son to bed (he's a cheeky boy atm and wakes up 2 or so times before drifting to sleep hence why me taking it soon) It's crazy what our brains can make us think n feel :( x

Your not alone. Both times they’ve upped my setraline I’ve been scared about getting worse but in the end I take it a few days later and I am so grateful for it! Just distract yourself and in weeks time you won’t look back

katepilar · 11/04/2022 21:47

None of my ADs made me feel out of control. In fact, sertralin made me feel more in control as I could filter out the outside world and concentrate on my own needs.

abcdefg2020 · 11/04/2022 21:49

I'm sat with it in my hand, just trying to pick up the courage to do it..

I honestly hate anxiety

Keep going you got this! In two weeks time you’ll feel 100% better

Pimpernella · 11/04/2022 22:18

It really helped me.
I don't get anxious much now. You might feel a bit sleepy at first but in a nice way and it won't stop you waking up if you need to.
Hope you feel much better soon.

abcdefg2020 · 11/04/2022 22:29

I haven't felt anything like side affects yet, I felt sick after 10 mins but j think it's because I was worrying myself so much. I keep getting anxious and then it'll disappear for a bit then come back so I think I'll be okay.

It's just the initial taking it that gets me nervous

Well done. I hope you got a restful night

Itsbackagain · 12/04/2022 08:10

I hope you had a good night. It will maybe take a little time to get into your system and you might have to work out the best time of day to take it etc but that's the same with any medication that's long term. Just try to relax.and remember it will help.

abcdefg2020 · 12/04/2022 09:30

I had a good night, I did get extremely tired after around an hour of taking it but I didn't feel anxious or anything of that nature! Woke up at around 5 to feed my son which I was scared I wasn't going to wake up in time !
