Weaning off citalopram 5mg

Has anyone weaned off citalopram 5mg and can tell me how it's recommended to do it?

I've been taking them for 7 months for post natal anxiety. I know it's the right time to stop. I feel lots better, I've also had some therapy and getting more sleep.

Been waiting for my doctor to call back but he's on annual leave.

Has anyone else done this? Unsure if I should take one every other day, or break them in half and take 2.5mg instead etc

Not that I condone medical advise from strangers on the internet...
5mg isn't even a therapeutic dose. I'd take alternate days rather than splitting and reduce that way.

Thank you. I will try that then. I think the gp intended to titrate the dose up but I felt better on it so he never did. Only had one phone call about it in 7 months, 4 weeks after I started.

Glad to hear you're doing better though ☺️

5mg is a tiny amount. You should speak to your GP but if you really want to do it.. do 1/2 every day for 2 weeks, then every other day for a week, then every 2 days for a week etc.

5mg? I’d be surprised if it was having much of an effect as all as it’s a subtherapeutic dose. I doubt you’ll notice much of a change weaning off them. I’d go for every other day but it shouldn’t take you long to come off them Smile
