Emotional flatlining

I've been feeling in an odd place for a few weeks and it finally came to me last night, I haven't been able to put my finger on it. I feel like I am flatlining.

I'm not feeling any major lows, but I'm not feeling any highs or excitement either. Is this normal?

I told my DH and he says it sounds like I am depressed, but I don't feel depressed, because I don't really feel anything. Just like I am bobbing along and getting by.

I'm not really sure how to move forward?

I feel like this too ! I don’t know what it is. Doesn’t quite feel like depression as it sounds like you are able to function pretty well and have a rational perspective on things. Has anything else changed lately in your life ? Anything that could be causing stress in the background ?

I refer to this as shutdown. For me it is a part of depression and is a state that I either slip into without realising or I can consciously induce it. Its very hard to come out of though.

Things that sometimes work are usual physical things that stimulate the senses. Eating something with a strong flavour like a really sweet orange or a chewing gum, getting a sports massage that kind of hurts a bit, singing to loud music in the car. Self harm does work but I'm trying to stop.
