Felt overwhelmed…burst into tears

Just that.

I work in a small team that has now joined with another 4 colleagues due to workload. There was just so much to do and learn and I managed to muck something up. Another colleague noticed, emailed to say how it should be done. Everyone saw the email and that it was me that was responsible. I burst into tears…I’d already had a shite morning when another colleague Skyped me and I stupidly took the call and couldn’t seem to pull myself together. I now feel like a total baby.

How do I get over myself and move on?

Try and write it off as one bad day. Is the colleague who skyped generally friendly? If so, then you could just apologise and say you were having a bad day and the email caught you by surprise and unexpectedly upset you.

Did the person who emailed intentionally copy in other people?

SilverShaker · 30/03/2022 17:15

Yes, she copied everyone in. At the time it was the straw that broke the camels back. The colleague who knew how upset I was wasn’t particularly supportive and said to not let her bother me.
It was one shitty day.

You need a little break and a reset. Can you take the afternoon off?

It's completely fine to cry at work if you have to. It sounds like you are super stressed and overwhelmed. The only thing to do is to have some rest and make sure you are taking regular breaks throughout the day for a stretch, fresh air etc.

Ah that's shitty behaviour to copy other people in to an email that's giving you feedback on a mistake.

If you know what your work tasks are tomorrow, then I would just get on with them with the minimum necessary communication and try to let everything settle down.

Thank you both. I have some leave coming up very shortly and will use it to relax a little.
