Sertraline side effects on hubby

My DH went on sertraline for the first time for anxiety about 9 months ago. The doctor was very upfront about potential side effects, including sexual ones, and mentioned some couples actually find some of these beneficial. It has worked well for him so far for the anxiety symptoms and last week we went back to the doctors to discuss him stopping or continuing the medication.

He really hasn't seen any other side effects except on his sex drive and since about 4 months on the meds he hasn't been able to climax (cum). This has actually been positive for us as before he was borderline premature ejaculation and now he can go as long as he or I want. The doctor did advise from the start that this may or was likely to happen.

The other side effect we have seen is that he just hasn't had any urge to masturbate at all from about the same time. He has been very embarrassed to mention this to the doctor previously but it came out in the discussion.

The doctor said she was happy to start coming of the medication as his anxiety had reduced but was also happy for him to continue on the medication if we were now seeing benefit from the side effects. He is still thinking it over this weekend but seems to be thinking that the side effects have actually been quite positive so is thinking to continue.

Have other couples seen similar at all?

We are a couple of years since DH started on the sertraline. We just don't have sex anymore (we sleep separately). I still want it but not so much it's an issue. I know some people couldn't live like that.

I would rather he is like he is now on Sertraline than like he was before with no Sertraline.

The other option is changing medication but there is no guarantee it would help the anxiety or the sex drive and there is a 4-6 week period where neither medication is working.

I had the same effect on all SSRIs. No sexual drive at all and if I could get going, I wasn't likely to finish. Just no interest at all. Pretty common effect from what I hear.
