Will pursuing an autism diagnosis impact my son under Adult Services( we were warned he wouldn’t be taken on if he had one when he moved from Cahms)?

My son is with Adult Services and on the priority list for therapy. He was under Cahms for depression and anxiety, on meds and also suffering from trauma. They were doing an ASC assessment they said they could fast track but warned me Adult might not take him on with a diagnosis. So I left it. It’s now clear a diagnosis might help him and he’s keen to pursue it. I don’t want them to use it as an excuse to just ditch him or move him down the list. Can they do that?

Also where will his diagnosis stuff be?

Can I ask how your son feels about a possible diagnosis OP?

He has said a few times he thinks he probably is. I think he’d like to know more about himself and his to handle his anxiety. He has said he’s happy for it to be explored but not sure he’d be happy if it hindered his care.

It sounds like you need to go back and see what they can do. They may refer your son somewhere else if it’s not something they can deal with.

I think it's vital. If he is autistic but this is being ignored in favour of adult services it's almost guaranteed the help he gets from them will not be appropriate for his needs. Pretending people are not autistic when they might be helps no one.
