Very low level self-harm, does that exist?

Is it a thing? And if so what does it mean? Someone close to me always has these small scratches , more like grazes than cuts, in the same place. When I ask there's always a different excuse to how it happens, but they appear fresh every few days. But they're really minor, nothing deep or painful looking at all. Is this a thing and would it even count as self-harm? I'm not sure if I should do or say anything.

Self harm is not about what you do, but more the intention behind it.
