My teen wants to go to London with her dads family, who take such good care of her. But I’m worried about a terror attack an
I being un reasonable I don’t want her to not live her life but iv got such awful anxiety about it.

ShinyMe · 11/02/2022 19:38

Has something happened? I wasn't aware of any raised alert recently?

GiantSpider · 11/02/2022 19:40

Do you let her travel by car? Honestly OP the risk of her being killed in a car crash is so much higher than a terrorist attack. Let her go.

Saffy321 · 11/02/2022 19:40

haven't they just lowered the terror threat?

Haus1234 · 11/02/2022 19:41

I’m sorry you feel anxious about it OP but yes YABU.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 11/02/2022 19:42

Londoner here - there isn't a terror threat AFAIK though she should look out for pickpockets.....

daisypond · 11/02/2022 19:44

I live in London. What terror threat are you talking about?

AnakinthePadawhine · 11/02/2022 19:44

I think the terror threat is minimal atm, no?
I work in the City and we did not get any heightened security lately.
I think your anxiety, as terrible as it makes you feel, should not stop her from enjoying her time with family in London.

Terrorism threat levels

The threat level indicates the likelihood of a terrorist attack in the UK.

National threat level
The threat to the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) from terrorism is substantial.

Northern Ireland-related threat level
The threat to Northern Ireland from Northern Ireland-related terrorism is severe.

Threat levels
There are 5 levels of threat:

low - an attack is highly unlikely
moderate - an attack is possible but not likely
substantial - an attack is likely
severe - an attack is highly likely
critical - an attack is highly likely in the near future

TimePoliceTeam236 · 11/02/2022 19:44

She'll be fine, let her go. You can't live in fear of what might happen.
I just tell my DC to keep aware of their surroundings and keep an eye out for any people acting suspiciously (prob won't help but makes me feel better). I don't go over the top because I don't want them to be anxious.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 11/02/2022 19:45

Why, specifically now, are you worried about a terror threat?

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 11/02/2022 19:46

It was much higher in the 80‘s and 90‘s thanks to our IRA friends

Shockedmama · 11/02/2022 19:48

There’s no reason I just suddenly thought tiday what if it happened
I do suffer with anxiety

Please don't burden your dc with your anxiety.

BHX3000 · 11/02/2022 19:49

You do know there are literally hundreds of thousands of teens who live in London, go to school in London, meet friends in London parks and streets every day... And they're all fine OP.

FennecShandDoesEverything · 11/02/2022 19:50

Don't make your DD a prisoner of your anxiety. You need to do whatever it takes for that not to happen. Including letting her go.

PonyPatter44 · 11/02/2022 19:52

So the problem is your anxiety, not an imminent terror threat. Of course you let hergo, and then you get some medication and / or therapy to deal with your anxiety.

RainbowBridge21 · 11/02/2022 19:53

Don't offload your anxiety on your kid, that's so unfair.

flowervest75 · 11/02/2022 19:53

A terror attack can happen literally anywhere in the world at any time. I’m live in London and I highly doubt anything will happen. If people who lived here thought like this, no one would ever leave the house

TheFlis12345 · 11/02/2022 19:53

More people live in London than Scotland and Wales combined. We quite happily go about our daily lives. Please don’t project your anxiety onto your child and make her miss out on great experiences because of it.

I can understand the fear.
mummykel16 · 11/02/2022 19:57

I can understand the fear.
Since Manchester I struggle

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/02/2022 19:58

Honestly you need to get a grip.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 11/02/2022 20:01

@Waxonwaxoff0

Honestly you need to get a grip.
I think this is a little harsh.

Since having kids I get it, but really you need to engage logical thinking here. Or learn how to.

piglet81 · 11/02/2022 20:02

I can understand where you’re coming from but it sounds like you could benefit from some coping strategies to help you manage your anxiety. Time for a gp appointment? I think the terror threat level has actually been lowered recently and certainly I’ve not noticed anything (here in London) to worry about more than usual. It’s a horrible feeling fretting about what might happen - you have my sympathies.

Wildlynx · 11/02/2022 20:05

As PP says the threat level has been lowered this week so (even more) unlikely that there will be any issue. I haven't had any need or desire to visit central London since the pandemic so can see that it feels like you're letting her out of your sphere of control/safety but please try not too let her be worried by you.
