ADHD Right to Choose

I'm incredibly down. I've been waiting for 2 years for an ADHD diagnosis appointment on the NHS. I've only just got a letter on Friday after requesting an update on my waiting time. The letter said they are only now just seeing people who have been referred in Oct 2018. I still have a long wait left and I'm so fed up. I've not been able to function for most of my life and have wasted my potential away without realising that I likely had ADHD.

How can I speed things up? I've heard the 'Right to Choose' mentioned before, but I have no idea how that works. Can someone walk me through the process please?

I'd be interested to see responses. I'm currently on a waiting to be assessed but looking into this as well if I can get seen sooner!

Not ideal but is going private an option?

Are you in England? If so go to your GP and ask to be referred for a private assessment under the Right To Choose scheme. I've never used it myself as I'm in Scotland but I see it mentioned on Reddit etc a lot. Also IIRC there is a page on Psychiatry UK about it with more info.

psychiatry uk was the main one doing right to choose but they are now full

there are a few others though

this page explains it, basically doctor has to agree its worth looking into and refer you specifically to the one you ask for. they usually have templates to print off and show gp, sometimes symptoms questionnaires too

then all the providers offering the right to choose pathway are lower down the page

Good luck op I need to look into this for dp. I currently have to go pick up a questionnaire from his drs so he can be referred.
