Fluoxetine and feeling worse

I started taking fluoxetine 20mg two weeks ago today and I actually feel worse, I'm having terrible anxiety, I know these meds can often make you feel worse before better but has anyone else experienced this? Did fluoxetine eventually work for you?

It made me feel worse before it made me feel better. Actually, if I remember correctly, it made me feel much worse before it made me feel better. I was really anxious and nauseous for the first 2 weeks or so and then it gradually got better.

hi @Iamnotmad thank you for replying. yes that's exactly how I'm feeling. I'm only taking 20mg once a day and I will persevere in hope that things will improve. Are you still taking fluoxetine now?

Yes... it made me feel more anxious for about 2 weeks..but also I think it worked more/quicker on my depression than my anxiety so I became more aware of my anxiety as my mood lifted and I tried to do more if that makes sense ??

I took it early last year for about 6 months...20mg. Initially nausea which settled after about 2 weeks. Negative thoughts went away and I felt better so stopped without speaking to GP. I think I worried about being on it too long. I was prescribed 40mg just before I stopped but didn't take it.

I've started back on it for about 2 weeks... I've really been struggling with depression... getting out of bed...I can lie there for hours. Everything is an effort and I have no motivation. I also suffer with anxiety.
I need to contact my GP for more medication and to update them.

I hope to feel better again soon but need to be patient.

@bigyellowTpot love your name 😃

Sorry to hear how you're feeling, I hope you feel better soon too.
Has your GP discussed any therapy options? Have you seen everymindmatters website...it has useful advice/tips for anxiety and other MH conditions.

At times I feel like I'm not even connected to real life when I watch others laughing etc. I do laugh but deep down I don't feel happy with my life and how I feel. I don't look forward to anything at the moment. I have to put on my happy face when I'm feeling particularly low which is draining.

Recently I feel like I'm an outsider in a bubble watching others live their lives.

I'm trying to remain calm when stressed to help me cope with situations.

Hope you're having a good day.
