Sertraline pain - when will it ease?

A couple of weeks ago I foolishly took my Sertraline without a lot of water. It caused me the most awful pain, like the worst heartburn. At one point I actually wondered if I was dying!

Now, every day when I take Sertraline (with LOADS of water) I get an echo of that pain that lasts for most of the day. I can’t eat, drink coffee or breathe deeply without pain.

I know this is a common thing, but how long will it last? It’s really getting in the way now.

Ah, I had this!

Mine was completely in my head after the fact and it took me weeks to get over the idea and fear of heartburn but if I was able to just move my mind on then I would forget about it and not be bothered by it. If I was thinking about it and worrying about it I would experience it.

Hard to describe TBF.
I drink a glass of milk with my tablet in the morning. First sip included the tablet and then drank the rest of the glass afterwards. It did help as it had the soothing effect I was after plus it sort of coated the tablet for me so I didn't 'feel' it in my stomach. Also I would do something straight after taking the tablet (and finishing my milk) which would occupy my mind.

I had to take it with food, not just a biscuit. Something more substantial. I only took it once without food, its agony. I felt like I was having a heart attack.

It does feel like what I imagine a heart attack would feel like. It was awful.

I’m quite sure it’s not my imagination. It only happens after i take my tablets, and eases very gradually through the day. It is still really painful, but nothing like the original event.

I know the pain you mean. DH thought I was going mad when I was saying how bad it was. And the first day it ever happened the pain lasted all day and I could have sworn I had somehow drank acid or something similar.

Have you tried milk? Or Gaviscon tablets after? Even honey and hot water, just something to coat your throat?

Try Nexium or Guardium. Lasts 12 hours and works great for me with heartburn

I’d tried milk, ranitidine and gaviscon. I’ll try honey tomorrow - that might be just the thing. Thank you for all your advice!

If you have it with food it doesn't burn at all. The pharmacist told me to always have it with a meal. I always took it with dinner. Hope you get some benefit from it.
