I am making myself feel phyiscally sick with worrying about things. I know what i am doing is silly but i cant stop myself, i am awake all night getting stomach knots. Has anyone got any coping strategies to help me cope? Xx

Do you have any specific worries? Maybe we can help? Long term health and general anxiety sufferer right here! It keeps me awake at sometimes but I've downloaded the app headspace which really helps!

Mainly work; i have always been an overthinker, but before having my baby i had more room in my head if that makes sense. Now i just worrying about things until i feel sick. I'm just fed up on losing much needed sleep because i can't stop myself thinking over and over about certain things. What does the app do? Xx

I understand, I worry about everything too.. its so exhausting isnt it? I listen to the sleepcasts on there, they clear my mind and really help me sleep. It's brilliant!

Would it help to realise that when you worry about things that haven't happened yet, what you are actually doing is imagining (or, to put it into more basic terms, pretending)? So, your brain conjures up a possible scenario and adds so much detail that you forget it's all made up and you believe it's really going to happen.

To counter it, when you start to think about something write it down. Taking the thoughts out of your head and putting them on paper instantly reduces their potency. Now write down the following possibilities;

  1. The worst possible outcome
  2. The best possible outcome
  3. The most likely outcome

(hint - 1 & 2 never happen!)

With practice you CAN police your thoughts and always know that anything beyond other than the moment you are currently in is only conjecture. It's not real.

If its affecting you so badly I think you should attempt to get a gp appointment.
